League Points System

Standings points (or just points) will be assigned to teams in leagues based on the following:

Win: 2 points

Win (shootout): 1 point

Tie where after 4 attempts, both teams failed to win the shootout: 0.5 points

Loss (shootout) or a Tie where no skip draw was played: 0 points

Loss: 0 points

Each league may determine its champion differently depending upon the number of teams and weeks. For example, some leagues may be a simple round robin while other leagues may have divisions or end with semifinals and finals matchups. Points will be used to determine standings and seeding

In addition to scores, teams will report on scoresheets how many ends are played after each game. The number of ends played will be tracked throughout the league and used to help determine tiebreaker scenarios (see below). Games that end with an early concession count as 8 ends played.

In order to help track which games went to a skip-draw, results with a skip draw will be recorded online with a .5 score differential. They can be recorded on the scoresheet like this or as before, as long as the Skip-Draw checkbox is checked. For example: A 9-8 game after a skip-draw will be recorded online as 8.5-8

Please note that the website standings are not necessarily indicative of this points system, the Standings Spreadsheet linked on the nightly score sheet is the source of truth for standings.

League Tiebreakers

Ties in the standings will be broken in the following order:

  1. Standings points accrued in head-to-head matches. [In leagues with uneven schedules, such as an incomplete round-robin, this tiebreaker is replaced with percentage of available standings points earned in head to head matches, with 0/0 being recorded as 50%]
  2. Games won in regulation play (ie, non-skip draw).
  3. Team Speed (pace of gameplay, measured by average number of ends played, modified by early concessions).
  4. Coin flip or lottery.

For situations where more than 2 teams are tied, the tiebreak process is followed until at least one team is separated from the tied group, and any remaining groups then repeat the tiebreaking process starting with Step 1.

Some leagues have tiebreaker processes that supersede these tiebreakers. If they do, they will be included in the introductory email.
