We have big news to share:
Today, Aksarben Curling signed a lease for a newly-built warehouse at 7413 Irvington Road to build a 5-sheet dedicated curling center in Omaha! The lease will be for an initial 10-year period with four 5-year extension options. Our goal is to open in January/February 2027.
This is a big step for our organization and the growth of the Olympic sport of curling in our region. It comes after years of investigation and due diligence, our Dedicated Ice Committee’s and Board of Directors’ thorough review of our budget, contractor bids, and fundraising projections—and the strong response we have been receiving from members like you pledging for the campaign.
At this point, we are confident that we can move forward and bring dedicated curling ice to Omaha.
Other Updates
- Lending: We’ve secured a loan of $650,000 from a local bank that gets us to 95% of our fundraising goal of $2.1M. This loan ensures that we can move forward on the project and meet critical timelines.
- Permitting and construction: We will have a building permit in September. Our team is conducting final reviews of bids. We will select our general contractor shortly.
- Ice equipment: Later this week, we will sign for an ice plant and equipment to create dedicated curling ice in the warehouse.
Fundraising: Calling on all members to pledge
We are asking all member households to pledge as soon as possible what you can give as a special contribution for the campaign. Donations can come later this fall. On your pledge form, you can share when you anticipate giving your contribution.
Our goal is 100% of member households pledging to give a contribution that is:
- Personally meaningful
- Based on your personal financial capacity
- Ideally a bit of a ‘stretch’

We're all in this together!
Right now, about 25% of Aksarben Curling’s membership has pledged or contributed. Commitments have ranged from $100 to $30,000. Many commitments have been in the $1,000 to $10,000 range.
If we all contribute, we will surpass our fundraising goal, limit the amount of debt that Aksarben Curling carries, and ensure that we can invest in nice to haves for our facility. Moreover, high member participation helps us make a strong case for local grantmakers to give.
No matter how much you can pledge: every pledge we receive gives our finance team and board of directors greater certainty and confidence to move forward and be able to open the facility in early 2027.
We have an incredibly exciting opportunity to make real our long-held dream of opening a dedicated curling center in the Omaha metro area.
Please join me in pledging your support for the project today.

Please note that these conceptual renderings are not the final drawings. The floor plan has changed based on feedback from members and partners, but they give a good general idea of what the space will look like.
